Seniors Alert Scheme (Pendant Alarm)

Falling – It’s every child’s fear with elderly parents. Getting an alert pendant for your parents may ease your mind.

Amongst older adults in Ireland, falls are a serious health problem with one in five likely to experience recurring falls which can lead to injuries and hospitalisation.

What is the Seniors Alert Scheme?

The Seniors Alert Scheme has been established in Ireland to encourage support for vulnerable older people in our communities. It provides funding for a personal monitored alarm, connected to a contact center to enable older adults to continue living securely in their own homes providing confidence, independence and peace of mind for both the older adult and their families.

How do I get an alarm?

Simply contact a local community or voluntary group operating the scheme in your area and they will apply on your behalf. It’s really as simple as that!

Below you will find the list of organizations and relevant contact details for those carrying out the Seniors Alert Scheme in County Kildare ~

Tips for starting the conversation

No one likes to face the reality of ageing. As our parents age these topics of conversations become extra important.

Even if your parent is reluctant, the truth is that medical alert devices can keep your parents independent and in their own homes for a longer period of time.

When approaching an older adult about the subject of a pendant alarm, make sure to ~

1)        Focus on how such devices keep them independent.

2)        Explain that you have found a way to keep them safer while living at home.

3)        Emphasize that a mobile phone is not enough to keep them safe.

4)        Discuss that this is a free product.

Keeping these tips in mind may ease the conversation and provide peace of mind to you and your parents.
